A giant ‘super Jupiter’ exoplanet has been discovered orbiting a nearby star.
It was spotted and imaged using the James Webb Space Telescope, identifying the gas planet as very bright and cold, with a mass more than six times that of Jupiter.
It’s called “Eps Ind Ab”, and it revolves around the main component of the nearby triple star system Epsilon Indi, which is only 12 light years from Earth.
The giant planet needs around 200 years to orbit its star.
