Crowds gather in the sunshine to support Erskine Veterans charity

The sun was shining as crowds of people gathered at Erskine Veterans Village to celebrate the end of a month-long fundraising drive.

The March for Erskine event takes place throughout the entire month of March, and urges supporters of the Veterans charity - which is based in Renfrewshire - by signing up and helping raise vital funds to support the charities service users.

All money raised go towards transforming the lives of the nearly 1,000 ex-servicemen, women and their families in Erskine’s care every year.

The sun was shining on the day and the Erskine team and the 1777 Dumbarton Squadron ATC cadets were on hand to cheer the veterans, families, and members of the public as they completed a 3K march through the heart of the veterans village grounds in Bishopton.

Erskine Veterans Joanna Martin and Danny Mavor led the way and there were bikes, chairs and prams, and plenty of seats along the way for those who wanted to take their time.

There were single marchers, families, the young and those a wee bit older - and even some four-legged friends who enjoyed a jaunt in the sunshine.

They all set off with determination to finish the course and raise money for Erskine.

The day was hailed as a fantastic success, with everyone who went along enjoying the festivities put on by organisers.

Erskine chief executive, Ian Cumming MBE said: ““It was fantastic to see such a great turnout for the March for Erskine Live event, on what was a beautiful day in the Erskine Veterans Village.

“The fundraising efforts of all involved will go a long way towards providing our Veterans with the facilities and care they so richly deserve.

“We are extremely grateful to everyone who signed up for the event at the weekend and made the day the success it was.”
