Crowds cheer as adorable girl forgets to stop at race finish line

A six-year-old girl had a crowd cheering when she completed a running race - but adorably forgot to stop at the finish line and did a full lap of the course. Edie Campbell-Goddard was taking part in a 10m sprint for children at the Highland Games in Oban, Argyll and Bute, Scotland.

But after Edie crossed the finish line and saw she was in the lead she was determined to keep going - and ended up running 400m round the track. In the cute clip Edie, who is wearing a tartan dress, is being cheered on by spectators at the event on Thursday, August 25.

Proud mum-of-two Dawn, 47, from Nottingham, said she thinks Edie enjoyed the limelight and making people smile. Counsellor Dawn said: “Edie kept asking me 'do I have to do the race' and I told her no, but as soon as they announced it she as right up there.

“After she crossed the finish line she looked back and saw she was in the lead so just kept going, she was so determined. Everyone was cheering and clapping for her, she loved being in the limelight I think, and seeing people smile.

“When she finished, she said ‘I have never had such a loud applause’. She loved everyone's reaction to the video, it’s been so amazing to see how people have taken to it.

“It was nice for people to see her determination and spirit. I am so proud of her, it’s given her such confidence. Everyone is calling her Speedy Edie now.”
