Londoners will be able to use the Elizabeth Line with a specially-designed limited edition Oyster card now that the line is finally open.
The much-anticipated new line will revolutionise London’s transport network, shrinking journey times between many parts of the capital and adding extra capacity to the network as a whole.
To mark the occasion, TfL has designed new Elizabeth Line themed Oyster cards - but how exactly can you get hold of one?
On the first day of service for the Elizabeth line, the cards will be dispensed from machines at all stations opening on the line as well as stops in Zone 1.
The cards feature the design of fabric of the seats of the line’s trains, and feature the official distinctive purple of the new railway.
A total of 1.2 million of the new cards will be issued, but they could run out quickly as some are likely to grab one as a souvenir.
As with all Oyster cards, they will cost a £5 deposit plus any credit added to cover the cost of journeys.
Shashi Verma, TfL’s Chief Technology Officer and Director of Strategy, said: “We are delighted to celebrate the brand new line coming to London and this moquette-inspired Oyster card is a wonderful way to commemorate the first new railway line through London in a generation.
“The Elizabeth line will transform how millions of people travel through the capital and beyond and we are looking forward to seeing customers using these limited edition cards as they enjoy all of what London has to offer.”
For diehard enthusiasts of London’s newest rail line, the London Transport Museum shop has launched a range of Elizabeth Line souvenirs - including a £2,500 sofa based on the colour of the tube’s seats.
Among those to see the line in action before it officially opens to the public was her Majesty the Queen on Tuesday, who paid a visit to Paddington station to mark the completion of the £20 billion rail link.
