Critical: Netflix series to follow emergency doctors and paramedics in London

A new Netflix documentary series will follow emergency doctors and paramedics as they work to save lives in London.

The six-part series, named Critical, will launch on the streaming platform next year.

It will be filmed across London’s major trauma hospitals, ambulance service rapid response teams and heli-medic teams.

Netflix have promised an “access-all-areas” look at the job of an emergency medic in the capital, with the film crew embedded with paramedics, nurses and surgeons.

Viewers will also follow the stories of patients brought back from the brink of catastrophe by those delivering life-saving treatment.

The series will be produced by The Garden, which recently co-produced Squid Game: The Challenge.

The Garden has significant experience in the medical genre, having worked on 33 seasons of 24 Hours in A&E and Channel 4’s acclaimed hospital documentary Emergency.

The action in Critical will be captured on portable single cameras and bodycams, according to Deadline.

Critical will be directed by Jermaine Blake, who has worked on Channel 4’s 24 Hours in Police Custody and Britain’s Busiest Airport: Heathrow.

Spencer Kelly is the executive producer, while Rebecca Arnold and Louise Bartmann will serve as co-executive producers.

Production on the show has already begun and it will be launched on Netflix in 2025.

More than 12,000 people are treated by the London Major Trauma System each year.

The network consists of four major trauma centres as well as the London Ambulance Service and two trauma units.

Survival rates have increased by 50 per cent over 5 years, saving an estimated 610 lives.
