Cristiano Ronaldo to Newcastle transfer rinsed by Roy Keane as World Cup reaction sparks post Manchester United pot shot

Pundit Roy Keane has taken aim at rumours over Cristiano Ronaldo joining Newcastle after his reaction to a Portugal World Cup howler.

With the clash with Ghana poised at 3-2 in injury time, Portugal goalkeeper Diogo Costa dropped the ball in front of him and was oblivious to the presence of Inaki Williams lurking with intent behind him. The frontman Williams robbed the 23-year-old stopper and stole the ball before slipping as he turned to shoot on goal and level the game.

It was a major let-off for Jota and Ronaldo could only scream from the sidelines at the goalkeeper having been taken off earlier Group H opener, having netted from the penalty to open the scoring. Ronaldo is a free agent and will no doubt have attracted suitors by netting at his fifth World Cup, with a move to Eddie Howe's men being touted after his Manchester United contract was ripped up.

However, Keane clearly isn't having any of it and the former Manchester United captain took a swipe at the rumoured move. Spotting the reaction from his former teammate on the sidelines, he said: "He's very lucky (Costa), and look at that face (Ronaldo). My goodness.

"It looks like he has just had a call (saying) that Newcastle are in for him. But it's unbelievable, you don't expect experienced players to be hanging on at the end."
