The son of Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has liked a tweet suggesting that Cristiano Ronaldo could move to the Wanda Metropolitano during the current window.
Ronaldo is hoping to leave Old Trafford this summer just a year after departing Juventus to go back to United. Reports claim he told his representatives that he would like to leave Erik ten Hag ’s side earlier this summer if a suitable offer comes in for him.
However, while Ronaldo has been linked with interest from Chelsea and Bayern Munich this summer, both clubs have distanced themselves from a potential deal for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, meaning a stay in Manchester is now more likely.
In the last few days, reports that Atletico - city rivals of Ronaldo’s former club Real Madrid - are keen on signing the Portuguese striker have emerged, with the added luxury of being able to offer him Champions League football. Marca have suggested that a move for the former Real forward would not be "economically viable" due to the astronomical salary he would command.
Despite that, Xerez Deportivo striker Gianluca Simeone, the son of Atletico’s manager has liked a post suggesting a move was imminent. A tweet from journalist Manu Surasky read: “Cristiano Ronaldo decides to return to Madrid... to play for Atleti. Jorge Mendes, his agent, presses for CR7 to reach the Metropolitan,” a tweet which was liked by Simeone’s son Gianluca.
Ronaldo’s future remains up in the air, with the striker yet to return to pre-season training with United due to “family reasons,” meaning he has missed all three of Ten Hag’s side’s pre-season victories.

Last week, United were 4-0 winners over Liverpool just three days before recording a 4-1 victory over Melbourne Victory in Melbourne, Australia. They made it three wins from three on Tuesday afternoon, beating top-flight rivals Crystal Palace 3-1.
French striker Anthony Martial has been in great form this summer so far and got his third goal in as many friendlies to give United the lead. Marcus Rashford got his second of the pre-season tour early in the second half, with Jadon Sancho adding a third shortly before the hour mark.
Ten Hag rung the changes with a third of the game remaining and it opened a door for Palace to score a consolation through Joel Ward. United ended the game with 10 men after Will Fish received a straight red card in the closing stages not long after coming on in place of Harry Maguire.
During the win over Patrick Vieira's side, summer signing Tyrell Malacia made his first start for United following back-to-back substitute appearances against both Liverpool and Melbourne.
The left-back played for 77 minutes in the victory, the longest time of any outfield United player during the match before being replaced in defence by Ethan Laird.
United’s next friendly is on Saturday morning against Aston Villa in Perth before concluding pre-season with meetings against Atletico Madrid and Rayo Vallecano on the weekend of July 30/31.
