Cristiano Ronaldo to Arsenal transfer plan revealed as star 'unlikely to play for Man Utd again'

Piers Morgan has revealed that he's encouraging Cristiano Ronaldo to make a move to the Emirates Stadium amid an increasingly uncertain future at Old Trafford. The Manchester United striker has been heavily liked with a move to London rivals Chelsea this summer but it's said that Thomas Tuchel is not open to the idea.

It's said that Ronaldo's intent to leave the Red Devils is driven by a desire to play in the Champions League this season, with Erik ten Hag set to guide United into the Europa League. And, despite the Gunners also missing out on Champions League qualification, Morgan has persisted in his mission to lure the Portugal international to north London.

Speaking to talkSPORT, the famous Gooner detailed his plan to bring Ronaldo to Arsenal after the pair exchanged texts. Morgan said: "I have had quite a lot of contact in the last week. I certainly think it’d be highly unlikely if Cristiano Ronaldo plays another game for Manchester United.

"I just think mentally he’s moved on. I’m not going to say what we’ve said to each other but like I said from the start I don’t think Cristiano feels Manchester United share his ambitions. I think he feels that the signings they’re making, the commitment they showed last season, where they finished up and a lack of Champions League football."

Ronaldo, who sees his contract at the club expire in 12 months, was notoriously close to joining Arsenal nearly 20 years ago. Sir Alex Ferguson kept United's cards close to his chest amid Arsene Wenger's prior interest in the five-time Ballon d'Or winner.

The Red Devils were already in the process of agreeing an informal alliance with Sporting Lisbon which would see United given first refusal on any departing player from the Portuguese club's academy. This was brewing all while Wenger was under the illusion that a deal for Ronaldo was close to completion.

United went about their business in a swift fashion and snatched the star from under Arsenal's nose. So, with Morgan's help, the Gunners could finally complete a two-decade-long transfer mission - though of course subject to Mikel Arteta's discretion.
