Cristiano Ronaldo stance on Ralf Ragnick request adds to tensions at Man Utd

Cristiano Ronaldo has told Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick he is still performing at the highest level and has nothing left to prove.

Ronaldo was left stunned earlier this month when Rangnick demanded that he needed to start scoring more goals to help the team win more games.

But despite recently turning 37, Ronaldo - who has notched 15 goals for the Red Devils so far this term to top the club's scoring charts - is adamant regarding his influence at the top of the beautiful game.

"That's not easy (competing at the highest level at his age), but it seems like it to me, because I show year after year that the numbers speak for themselves," Ronaldo said.

"I don't have to tell you that I'm very good, because the numbers are there."

There is speculation regarding Ronaldo's future at the club beyond the end of the season, and Mirror Sport understands United will not stand in the Portuguese's way if he wants to leave amid fears he will not be able to win trophies at Old Trafford.

United are locked in a battle just to secure a top-four spot and Champions League qualification as things stand.

And Ronaldo, who re-signed for United from Juventus last summer, has left the club under no illusions regarding his appetite for more silverware before he retires.

Ronaldo added: "It’s hard to say that I don’t want more, because if I’m at a club that gives me the opportunity to win more things, why not?

"I know I don’t have many years left playing, four or five more, we’ll see, and I want to win more things.

"The facts are facts, the rest doesn’t matter at all.

"That's why I’m very happy with my form, I’m still scoring goals, helping people, teams, both in the national team and at United, and that's why I want to continue like this.

"It's right to keep competing and be at the highest level."
