Cristiano Ronaldo sparks confusion with Instagram Live video that baffles Rio Ferdinand

Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo confused fans on Thursday evening with an out-of-blue Instagram Live video of himself in a sauna.

More than 700,000 people tuned in to see the Premier League star, 37, pour water onto stones to produce more steam in his personal sauna, believed to be in his garden.

Ronaldo - who didn't speak during the video - left his 401 million Instagram followers baffled by his actions, with many questioning whether the live stream was accidental.

"What you doing bro?" asked his former United team-mate Rio Ferdinand.

And one fan joked: "Ronaldo has 401 million followers but doesn't even know how it works."

Ronaldo is the most followed individual on the social media platform, boasting more followers than Kylie Jenner, Lionel Messi and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

Only Instagram's official account has more - 470 million.

Ronaldo is a huge fan of saunas and steaming has been part of his fitness regime and lifestyle for many years.

The Portugal captain also enjoys the cold, recently sharing a video of himself using a freezing cryotherapy chamber in Dubai during the Premier League's recent winter break.

Ronaldo has a strict diet and exercise routine, helping him remain one of the best footballers on the planet despite his advancing years.

"I recommend anyone to say no if Cristiano invites you to his house, because that boy is a machine and he never stops training," Patrice Evra once said.

"I went there and I was really tired after training, but on the table there was a salad and chicken breast and only water, no drinks."

As quoted by Goal, Ronaldo added: "A good workout must be combined with a good diet.

"I eat a high protein diet, with lots of wholegrain carbs, fruit and vegetables, and avoid sugary foods."

He went on to say: "Eat regularly. If you train regularly it’s important to keep energy levels high to fuel your body for better performance.

"I sometimes eat up to six smaller meals a day to make sure I have enough energy to perform each session at top level... drinking water is so important."

On his exercise routine, Ronaldo revealed: "In training we do a few laps of the pitch, stretching and cardio warm-up exercises.

"Make sure you do something similar in your training, even if it is jogging to the gym or a warm up on the treadmill or bicycle... mix it up."

He added: "We do a lot of sprinting drills in training and they can be incorporated into your workout whether you are in the gym or outdoors.

"Try and add it to every workout you do... fit in exercise wherever you can.

"You can do an abs workout in your bedroom when you wake up in the morning or before you go to bed. If you get into a routine then it makes it easier as it will become a habit."
