Cristiano Ronaldo insists he's fully focused on Portugal's World Cup campaign on the eve of their opening match after having his contract terminated by Manchester United.
The 37-year-old, who hasn't been out of the news in recent weeks as Portugal have tried to prepare for the tournament in Qatar, posted an image of himself to Instagram alongside a caption.
It read: "We're about to start our campaign in the biggest competition in the world. An adventure that we desire long and full of successes, in order to raise the name and flag of our country very high. We want to fill all Portuguese with pride and joy. There are no impossibilities."
Ronaldo's contract was mutually terminated by the Red Devils this week and the question has already turned to where the five-time Ballon d'Or winner will end up next.
United were keen to part ways with the forward following his explosive interview with Piers Morgan in which he admitted he has no respect for manager Erik ten Hag and feels "betrayed" by the club.
United said in a statement on Tuesday: "Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United by mutual agreement, with immediate effect. The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145 goals in 346 appearances, and wishes him and his family well for the future.
"Everyone at Manchester United remains focused on continuing the team's progress under Erik ten Hag and working together to deliver success on the pitch."
In response, Ronaldo said: "Following conversations with Manchester United we have mutually agreed to end our contract early.
"I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever change. However, it feels like the right time for me to seek a new challenge. I wish the team every success for the remainder of the season and for the future."
Ronaldo is now available as a free agent but few clubs are able to afford him, with the forward previously earning £500,000 per week at Old Trafford.
According to Marca, Ronaldo is considering a potential move to Newcastle, but he is also attracted to a lucrative move to the Middle East.
