Cristiano Ronaldo has sent a message to former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson after they were reunited prior to Sunday’s goalless draw with Newcastle.
Sir Alex presented Ronaldo with an engraved plate after he reached 700 career club goals. He brought up his seventh ton against Everton a week last Sunday, netting the winner in a 2-1 victory.
Ronaldo was handed his second league start of the campaign against Newcastle and before kick-off, he was greeted by Sir Alex, who handed him his award. He was also joined by David de Gea, who made his 500th appearance for United and marked it with a clean sheet.

Taking to Twitter on Monday, Ronaldo shared some pictures of his presentation with Sir Alex, writing: "Always good to be with you boss!" The superstar played 292 games under his former United manager, netting 118 times.
Together, they lifted three Premier League titles, the 2004 FA Cup and the 2008 Champions League among many other pieces of silverware. But Ronaldo wasn’t quite all smiles for the whole of Sunday.
After failing to find the net for a 10th game this season, the attacker was replaced by Marcus Rashford on 72 minutes in what turned out to be Erik ten Hag’s only substitution.
Ronaldo was seen shaking his head when leaving the field and his dismay was justified when Rashford missed a glorious chance to win the game at the death. Ronaldo has scored just twice this term, having started only six matches.
