Cristiano Ronaldo sends message to Manchester United dressing room ahead of Chelsea fixture

Cristiano Ronaldo has sent a message of support to his Manchester United teammates ahead of Saturday's match against Chelsea.

Ronaldo refused to come on for United in their 2-0 win over Tottenham in midweek and he returned to the dressing room before the game had finished, which forced Erik ten Hag to make the forward train separately with fitness coaches on Friday.

Ten Hag insisted there would be 'consequences' for Ronaldo's actions in his pre-match press conference prior to the weekend and the forward has subsequently not been included in the squad to play Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, as expected.

Ronaldo will train at Carrington instead and he is set to hold talks with Ten Hag before being reinstated to the first-team.

The 37-year-old will watch United's match against Chelsea from home, but he sent a message of support to his teammates on Saturday afternoon before kick-off, writing on Instagram: "Let's go Manchester United."

Ronaldo responded to the Tottenham incident on social media on Thursday night and wrote: "Right now, I just feel that I have to keep working hard in Carrington, support my teammates and be ready for everything in any given game. Giving in to the pressure is not an option. It never was. This is Manchester United, and united we must stand. Soon we’ll be together again."

United play FC Sheriff at Old Trafford on Thursday and Ronaldo is expected to return to the squad for that match.
