Cristiano Ronaldo's verdict on next Man Utd manager after making transfer U-turn

Cristiano Ronaldo 'trusts' Manchester United to make a sensible appointment with their next manager as he intends to stay with the club next season.

There have been claims that the Portugal star's return to Old Trafford was going to be cut short in the summer with the Red Devils looking unlikely to secure Champions League football next season. Reports suggest that Ronaldo wanted to be competing for silverware and was unconvinced the Red Devils would be able to deliver that given their struggles this term.

United have a huge rebuild ahead of them with Ralf Rangnick taking a consultancy role and a new manager set to replace him in the dugout. Erik ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettino are the leading contenders for the job with United in the process of talking to candidates, while there could be wholesale changes personnel-wise.

Several players are unsettled at the club or misfiring including Marcus Rashford, as well as the likes of Paul Pogba and Edinson Cavani set to leave as free agents. Ronaldo's future is also up in the air with claims he was seeking an exit, but the latest reports suggests he now wants to stay put.

The 37-year-old plans to stay with the club for another year, according to AS. The Spanish outlet claims the former Real Madrid forward still believes he made the right call by rejoining the Red Devils despite how this season has unravelled as they were knocked out of the Champions League midweek against Atletico Madrid.

The report adds Ronaldo also has faith in the Old Trafford chiefs to make a sensible managerial appointment this summer, when Rangnick's spell as interim ends. He is also relishing the prospect of playing under a top-class manager.

On a personal level, Ronaldo has enjoyed a successful season, but he's not as fared as well under Rangnick compared to Ole Gunnar Solskaer. He came firing out the blocks at the start of the campaign but has struggled to adapt to the German's high pressing philosophy.

Ronaldo has managed to rediscover his form, however, as he netted a sensational hattrick against Tottenham last weekend. The Portuguese wasn't a factor against Atletico Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League last 16 tie as Renan Lodi secured a 1-0 win (2-1 on aggregate) to send them out of the competition.
