Cristiano Ronaldo's sudden outburst lifts the lid on outcome of Man Utd crunch talks

Cristiano Ronaldo held crunch talks with Erik ten Hag at Manchester United's Carrington training base on Tuesday.

The Portugal international was joined by his agent Jorge Mendes and was locked in talks for most of the day although did complete fitness and medical checks before leaving the facilities via a back exit around six hours after his arrival.

The official outcome of the talks is yet to be made public, with reports suggesting both parties stuck to their guns; Ronaldo still wants to leave United for a club competing in the Champions League while the Red Devils want to retain their talisman.

But Ronaldo has since spoken out on social media in response to a post from a fan account on Instagram.

The post read: "Jorge Mendes told Manchester United that Cristiano Ronaldo is adamant about leaving, but Mendes left negotiations less than positive that Ronaldo would get his move. Sir Alex Ferguson has intervened. United insist Ronaldo is not for sale."

And Ronaldo responded: "Impossible not to talk about me one day. Otherwise, the press makes no money. You know that if you don't lie you can't get people's attention. Keep going that one day you got some news right."

While Ronaldo hasn't said much about what his meeting with Ten Hag entailed, he has suggested that he may not be looking to leave United after all.

Ronaldo has one year left on his United contract, but crucially the Red Devils have the option of extending this by another season.

This means that while Ronaldo won't be playing in the Champions League this season, he has every chance of doing so at Man United the following campaign.

It is apparently for this reason that United are open to the possibility of letting Ronaldo leave on loan for a single campaign.

Ronaldo is said to have been surprised by the suggestion, but it may be the best outcome for both parties.

Man United keep their talisman a little while longer, Ronaldo gets to play in the Champions League and, perhaps most crucially, the forward doesn't tarnish his legendary reputation among Red Devils supporters.
