The family of Cristiano Ronaldo have expressed their appreciation towards Liverpool supporters following last night's minute's applause at Anfield in memory of the Manchester United forward's son.
It was announced on Monday by Ronaldo and his partner Georgina Rodriguez that their new-born son had tragically died, prompting Reds fans to propose the idea of a collective applause in the seventh minute of the match (representing the shirt number worn by the Portugal international).
Not involved in the Red Devils' matchday squad for last night's contest after requesting privacy at this difficult time, all those inside Anfield paid their respect in his absence and loudly sung 'You'll Never Walk Alone' to demonstrate a clear show of support to the 37-year-old.

The reception received at the home of the Reds did not go unnoticed by the family of the five-time Ballon d'Or winner, who were quick to recognise the value of this kind-hearted gesture. Ronaldo’s Madeira-based sister Elma showed her emotion overnight by posting the following message: “Thank you for this Liverpool. We will never forget what you did today."
Sibling Katia, posting from her home in Brazil, added: "Way beyond football" against her own video set against the chorus of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone'. The sisters and their mum Dolores Aveiro also demonstrated they are placing their faith in God to help them overcome the tragic loss that has afflicted the family.
Dolores, quoting a well-known verse from the Bible which has helped many people through difficult times, wrote on her Instagram in Portuguese: 'Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your way acknowledge Him And he shall direct your Paths.'
A joint-statement released by Ronaldo and his partner on Monday evening read: “It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away. It is the greatest pain that any parents can feel. Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness.
“We would like to thank the doctors and nurses for all their expert care and support. We are all devastated at this loss and we kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time. Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you.”
