Cristiano Ronaldo's private Man United meeting revealed amid Chelsea transfer rumours

The rumours surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo's future at Manchester United refuse to go away in the final 48 hours of the summer transfer window. The 37-year-old has less than 12 months left to run on his contract in Manchester and has been strongly linked with a move away.

Ronaldo is reportedly desperate to leave the Red Devils this summer as he looks to play Champions League football again this season. However, as the deadline approaches, it looks more and more likely the Portugal legend will be staying put at Old Trafford.

The United forward has made just the one start under new manager Erik ten Hag, who has used him off the bench on three separate occasions. It has only added fuel to the fire when it comes to speculation surrounding Ronaldo's future.

It turns out things weren't all rosy on the red side of Manchester when Ralf Rangnick was in charge, either. According to The Athletic, Ronaldo was among a number of United players who approached the former interim manager back in February. The report claims the Portugal international was concerned about a two-man frontline and the selection of Harry Maguire.

Fast-forward over six months and Ronaldo is seemingly even more unhappy at United. On Saturday, he was brought on as a second-half substitute in United's 1-0 win at Southampton and Ten Hag cast doubt over his future following the full-time whistle.

He said: ""I can't say that [Ronaldo will stay]. We will be alert until the last second in the transfer market."

football.london understands Chelsea were offered Ronaldo by his agent Jorge Mendes earlier in the summer transfer window. Todd Boehly was keen on signing the international superstar, but Thomas Tuchel had reservations. Ronaldo has been widely criticised for his inability to adapt to United's system since re-joining the club 12 months ago.
