Cristiano Ronaldo signs for Al Nassr as former Man United forward signs £172million deal

Former Manchester United attacker Cristiano Ronaldo has agreed to join Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr, the club has confirmed.

According to Saudi state TV al-Ekhbariya on Friday, the 37-year-old attacker has agreed a two-year deal in the range of £172million. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has been a free agent ever since he parted ways with United following his controversial interview with Piers Morgan.

Ronaldo had previously expressed his ambition to play in the Champions League once again in his career, but it appears that no serious suitors have been forthcoming in recent weeks.

The Saudi Arabian outfit confirmed the news on Instagram on Friday evening, posting a photo of Ronaldo holding a home shirt. An accompanying message said: “This is more than history in the making.

“This is a signing that will not only inspire our club to achieve even greater success but inspire our league, our nation and future generations, boys and girls to be the best version of themselves. Welcome @cristiano to your new home @alnassr_fc.” It remains to be seen if the forward will feature against Khaleej FC on Saturday, but it would appear unlikely. He could potentially make his debut on Thursday, January 5.

Al Nassr currently sit in second position in the Saudi Pro League, and boast the likes of former Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina, ex-Bayern Munich midfielder Luiz Gustavo and Cameroon World Cup star Vincent Aboubakar.

As well as enduring a difficult campaign with the Reds prior to his departure - where he registered just three goals in all competitions - Ronaldo and Portugal exited the World Cup at the hands of Morocco at the quarter-finals stage.

Ronaldo scored 145 goals in 346 appearances for United across his two spells at Old Trafford - winning the Premier League title on three occasions.
