Cristiano Ronaldo's furious reaction to being subbed by Ralf Rangnick in Man Utd win

Cristiano Ronaldo was visibly furious with Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick after he was substituted during their Premier League clash with Brentford.

The 36-year-old was brought off for Harry Maguire in the 71st minute, shortly before Marcus Rashford made it 3-0 to the Red Devils.

Ronaldo had played a pivotal role in United's second goal, producing a wonderful chest pass to set Bruno Fernandes on his way before the Portuguese squared to Mason Greenwood.

But that was not enough to convince Rangnick to keep the five-time Ballon d'Or winner, who was returning from an injury which kept him out of the last two games, on the pitch.

When the board showed Ronaldo's number, the Red Devils superstar was clearly in a state of shock and muttered to himself as he trudged off the pitch.

Ronaldo continued to show his displeasure as he passed his boss and threw his jacket down before sitting in the dugout, later being seen asking why it was him to be subbed.

But during the celebrations for Rashford's goal, Rangnick spoke to the forward, likely explaining the decision.

The pair evidently have a good working relationship and Ronaldo recently stated the he believes the acclaimed German coach will be a success during his temporary spell.

"He arrived here five weeks ago and changed many things but he needs time to put his ideas to the players and on the pitch as well," the former Real Madrid and Juventus icon said on Sky Sports.

"It takes time but I believe that he is going to do a good job, we know that we have not been playing the best football as we should do but we have many games to improve.

"But since he arrived I think in some points we are better but as I said before we need time, it's not easy to change the mentality of players and the way they play the system and the culture like that so I believe that he is going to do a good job."

Meanwhile, Rangnick has admitted that his star striker needs more support for the entire United team to be successful, saying: "What he has done with his career so far is amazing: 800 goals in competitive games, no-one has achieved that in the last 80 or 100 years. That shows what kind of exceptional player he is.

"But the Premier League is the most competitive league in the world and he cannot do things on his own. He is one important member of this team and that’s how we have to develop."
