Cristiano Ronaldo's furious half time complaint spotted on BT Sport camera

Cristiano Ronaldo was furious at half-time at the Wanda Metropolitano as he complained to the referee about how Atletico Madrid vs Manchester United was officiated.

The Red Devils were miles off it during the first period in Spain for the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie as Joao Felix scored the opener with a brilliant diving header that went in off the post past David de Gea.

United were unable to match the physicality of Diego Simeone's men who raised their game in the first 45 minutes.

Madrid put in several meaty challenges but ref Ovidiu Hategan only showed one yellow card, which went to Marcos Llorente for a foul on Harry Maguire.

And Ronaldo was visibly frustrated going off the field at halftime as he complained to Hategan, gesturing for him to get his cards out of his pocket.

Ronaldo went down clutching his leg at one point after he was cynically fouled on the halfway line to stop a promising United counter attack.

Fred came over to help his teammate up as the Portugal star was able to continue, but he has not been a factor at the top end of the pitch.

Rangnick sprung a surprise in United's starting line-up as he dropped Diogo Dalot, opting to play Victor Lindelof at right-back.

Paul Scholes reckons Ralf Rangnick's men were bullied as Atletico came firing out the blocks in the first half as the former Red Devils midfielder criticised the interim boss' decision to play the Swede in his unnatural position.

He told BT Sport: "United for the first ten minutes just weren’t ready and all the problems have come down United’s right-hand side with Lindelof at right-back. Just not worked."

"I think they’ve been bullied, physically. They weren’t ready for Atletico coming out and being all over them, really against them."
