One of Cristiano Ronaldo's close friends has posted a supportive message following Manchester United’s dismal start to the campaign.
The Reds have shipped six goals in their opening two fixtures, with only an own goal in their favour to show for it. As a result, they sit bottom of the table with Liverpool their next opponents.
Ronaldo was handed his first start of the season by Erik ten Hag after featuring for just 45 minutes in pre-season due to missing the club’s summer tour because of family reasons. But even he couldn’t prevent Saturday’s 4-0 rout at the hands of Brentford.

After the game, close friend Miguel Paixao posted a message of support for his friend on his Instagram story. He referenced Ronaldo’s Champions League achievements and five Ballon d’Ors, inferring that the road to success doesn’t always start positively.
He wrote: "The easiest is when you will receive the Champions (League), or Ballon d’Ors... It's not how it starts." It remains to be seen whether Ronaldo will still be at the club once the transfer window closes, with Ten Hag revealing this week that Ronaldo has not told him he wishes to make an exit.
