Cristiano Ronaldo's actions with Man Utd transfer target Pau Torres after recent comments

Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United target Pau Torres swapped shirts after playing for their national sides, as speculation heightens over the Spaniard's future.

The Villarreal centre-half was unable to keep out Ronaldo's Portugal side as Spain drew 1-1 with their neighbours in Seville. Alvaro Morata opened the scoring before Ricardo Horta equalised with the United No 7 appearing from the bench in the second-half.

Torres could well be on the move this summer after another stellar year with Villarreal. 12 months ago the 25-year-old was linked with a move to the Premier League, shortly after leading his boyhood club to Europa League victory over the Red Devils.

This term he's stepped up once more, helping Villarreal reach the last four of the Champions League. They saw off Juventus and Bayern Munich en route before being knocked out by Liverpool. Now he could prove to be the man to address United's defensive issues.

Despite signing Raphael Varane in the summer to partner Harry Maguire the side have continued to leak goals. Erik ten Hag is thought to be looking for a new centre-half which has led to Torres addressing his future in Spain.

He told AS recently: "Right now there is nothing at all, there is talk of many things like every year, I have peace of mind of being where they want me, at the club of my life and I have this offer right now that I value as very positive. There is nothing right now, the only thing I have is the offer from Villarreal, so I am very calm."

Torres has a £55m release clause on his current deal, which runs until 2024, giving Villarreal plenty of leverage in negotiations did they want to sell one of their prized assets. Ten Hag's No 1 defensive target currently though does appear to be Jurrien Timber.

The Dutch coach has worked with the centre-half at Ajax with talks held over a move to Old Trafford. Timber recently discussed in next move, telling De Telegraaf : “In the end, my gut feeling will be the deciding factor. The picture has to be right. You can go to a big club. But if you're not going to play there it's better to stay with Ajax.

"And Ajax is also a big club. We play football in the Champions League and I play there together with the best players in the Netherlands. That is not nothing. Of course, I can develop further [at Ajax]. I am 100 per cent sure of that. I don't feel like I'm done at the club. But I can also develop at other clubs.”
