Cristiano Ronaldo’s Manchester United exit at the end of the season could open up a transfer opportunity for Arsenal to solve their striker crisis.
According to Sun Sport, the Portuguese forward is attracting the interest of PSG, Bayern Munich and Roma as his future in Manchester currently weighs in the balance.
If Ronaldo does decide to reunite with Mourinho at Roma, then that could put Tammy Abraham’s place in the side in doubt, which Arsenal should look to exploit.
The Gunners will be in desperate need of a striker come the end of the current campaign and Abraham would certainly be an excellent addition.
Mikel Arteta has registered interest in the England international previously, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that Arsenal were only considering a move for Abraham last summer if they could free up space in the striker position.
Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette had both reportedly been made available by Edu, but neither player was sold.
Abraham ended up joining Roma in a £40 million deal from Chelsea in the summer after he was deemed surplus to requirements by Thomas Tuchel.
It was reported that the Englishman wanted to join Arsenal and the Gunners were keen on pursuing a deal, but they had to offload one of the strikers beforehand.
This was a missed opportunity for the north London side because the Roma forward fits into the strategy that Mikel Arteta and Edu are building at the club.
Not only is he a young striker, but he has also shown that he is capable of scoring goals and has a physical presence in the forward position, which Arteta’s side currently lacks.
The current starting forward for Arsenal is Lacazette but his contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and according to French outlet L’Equipe, his former club Lyon are interested in resigning him.
If he does depart from the club then Arsenal could be left with just one recognised striker in the form of Folarin Balogun, as Nketiah’s contract is also set to expire at the end of the season.
Ronaldo’s departure from Manchester United could open up this excellent opportunity, and if a transfer chance does present itself for Abraham then Edu should pursue a deal for the young forward.
