Cristiano Ronaldo omitted as Manchester United told the three players they must keep this summer

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Mark Bosnich says there are only three players he wouldn't allow to leave Old Trafford this summer.

United have massively failed to live up to expectations this season. Saturday's defeat to Everton left the club's hopes of reaching next season's Champions League hanging by a thread.

Supporters are now beginning to look to the end of the season as they aim to renew their optimism. MEN Sport understands that Ajax are expecting Erik ten Hag to leave the club this summer to move to Old Trafford.

With a new manager is likely to come new signings, especially considering the likes of Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard and Edinson Cavani are all out of contract this summer. MEN Sport's United writer Tyrone Marshall recently wrote that Jadon Sancho, Bruno Fernandes and Raphael Varane were the three players United should look to build around for next season.

However, speaking to talkSPORT, Bosnich offered up his own three players who should definitely remain at Old Trafford. "It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realise there is a lot of dead wood there, a lot of players who have been there for a long time and seen off a lot of managers," he began.

"As far as I’m concerned, if I come in there and I see that, I’m like, ‘Listen – it’s time to move on’. I think the more important thing at this moment in time is who the new manager is going to keep.

"Out of those players you’ve been watching this season, David de Gea has been their best player over the last four or five seasons. Bruno Fernandes, definitely, and I would keep Raphael Varane. Everyone else, you’d have to say, is up for discussion."
