Cristiano Ronaldo moves further ahead of Lionel Messi with latest Manchester United hat-trick

Cristiano Ronaldo showed just why he’s in a class of his own again on Saturday with his latest heroics for Manchester United.

The five-time Ballon d’Or is rightly regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, having broken a multitude of records throughout his career. Earlier this year, the 37-year-old became the highest goalscorer of all time, and he doesn’t look like stopping anytime soon.

Ronaldo was once again at his best on Saturday as he scored a hat-trick to inspire United to a 3-2 victory over Norwich at Old Trafford. His treble showed off all the attributes that have made him one of the greats as he tucked away a poacher’s finish, leapt highest to head in his second and smashed home a brilliant free-kick for his third.

His latest feat saw him grab a second hat-trick in three league outings for United, having repeated the trick after inspiring the Reds’ to a 3-2 win over Tottenham last month. Not only that, but it took him a quite remarkable figure when it comes to his career.

In scoring his treble against Norwich, he made it 60 career hat-tricks, the most of any active player. The figure puts him five ahead of long-term rival Lionel Messi.

Ronaldo’s latest hat-trick comes over 14 years since he scored the first of his career, and the only one of his first spell with United. It came in a memorable 6-0 win over Newcastle at Old Trafford back in 2008.

From there, he went on to score a remarkable 44 hat-tricks during his time at Real Madrid, while adding three more with Juventus as well as 10 while on international duty with Portugal. Having grabbed two more since his return to Old Trafford last summer, Ronaldo has shown his appetite for goals is far from over.
