Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and David de Gea told they should leave Manchester United

Manchester United have been told they need to replace Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and David de Gea if they want to move forward.

It has been a troublesome season for United who are looking set to miss out on the Champions League next season. Interim boss Ralf Rangnick is to be replaced at the end of the season as the former RB Leipzig manager moves into an advisory role.

The Manchester Evening News revealed last month that Erik ten Hag is the favourite among the United board to become the next manager and has been interviewed for the position. However, earlier this week it emerged that the dressing room at Old Trafford is split over the potential appointment of Ten Hag.

According to Trevor Sinclair, whoever becomes the next United boss needs to get rid of three United players who have been integral to the squad this season. Speaking on talkSPORT, Sinclair explained: "It doesn't matter what manager comes into Manchester United next if they don't get their eggs in a row properly and put the people in place that they need to.

"Director of football, philosophy, recruitment, manager, and in that order. [Otherwise] they're just going to end up with a mismatch of players.

"You look through the side - you've got [Paul] Pogba who's ready to go. Sancho's come in as a winger - can't beat a player, not quick enough.

"You've got [Raphael] Varane, for me the jury's still out on him. You've got Ronaldo, can't press, so why are you bringing him into the football club in the first place?

"I said this last summer. He will score a lot of goals but will Manchester United be successful?

"I don't think so. Because I don't think that's what they needed.

"Even De Gea, if you're going to start with the backline, start with De Gea. He's not good enough with his feet. If you want to play through the lines and play the modern football that all the top teams are playing, De Gea is not good enough with his feet."

So far this season De Gea has been the standout performer for United. The Spaniard has made a whole host of crucial saves, including against Leicester City on Saturday. Ronaldo, meanwhile, is the club's leading goalscorer with 18 to his name. After a slow start to the campaign, Sancho has improved in 2022. The former Borussia Dortmund star was named United's Player of the Month for February.
