Cristiano Ronaldo helps Arsenal in Edu pursuit for dream £54m striker with Tottenham destruction

Cristiano Ronaldo's heroics is giving Arsenal an easier path to signing Mikel Arteta’s ideal striker in the summer transfer window ahead of next season.

Our colleagues at the Manchester Evening News reported that Ralf Rangnick had major doubts about the prospect of Ronaldo leading the line for United next season.

It was because of this, that according to our sister site, the Daily Star, the Red Devils had reportedly lined up Victor Osimhen as the Portuguese player's replacement despite the player being heavily linked to Arsenal.

However, Ronaldo’s recent hattrick against Spurs reminded everyone that he is still capable of performing at the highest level and there is still life in the great player, which would prevent United from going big for a striker in the summer.

The Gunners are in desperate need of a striker and will need to sign two forwards ahead of next season if Arteta wants the requisite strength in depth.

This is because of the likely departure of Alexandre Lacazette, as his contract is set to expire at the end of the season.

If he does leave the club, Arsenal could be left with just one recognised striker in the form of Folarin Balogun. Eddie Nketiah’s deal is also up this summer and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s move to Barcelona means that Edu would have offloaded three forwards within the space of six months.

Osimhen is an athletic, quick and imposing attacker who mixes a lightning rapid turn of pace with long-distance speed and is certainly more than capable of being a prominent threat on the counter-attack for Arsenal.

It is because of this that Arsenal have been credited with an interest in Osimhen as he looks to fit the bill for the type of striker needed for Arteta's planned revamp of his frontline.

Italian journalist Paolo Bargiggia revealed that the Nigeria international was close to joining Arsenal last year before completing a move to Naples instead and Osimhen himself has previously claimed that the Gunners had enquired for him as a youngster.

The powering striker followed in Ronaldo’s footsteps over the weekend by also playing a crucial part in his side's win as he scored two goals for Napoli in a 2-1 victory.

Osimhen would be a quality signing for the Gunners, and Ronaldo’s recent heroics could play a major in Arsenal landing their perfect striker signing for the summer.
