Cristiano Ronaldo gives Chelsea 'truth' with Man Utd with future timeframe revealed

Just like all reality TV dramas should, Cristiano Ronaldo has followed the textbook transfer saga play, taking to social media to speak out on his future.

The Portuguese forward trudged off the field after playing 90 minutes as Erik ten Hag's men were battered 4-0 away to Brentford over the weekend, arousing more suspicions that all is not well on that front. The 37-year-old didn't move with the rest of his team to applaud the angry away fans, instead storming past his manager down the tunnel.

Ronaldo has remained an eery backdrop to transfer proceedings all window with nobody coming particularly close to signing him, yet his lack of activity in pre-season, put down to personal reasons, only brought about increased speculation.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner still has one year left on his contract at Old Trafford and could leave for free next summer, though reportedly, loan moves away this summer are still possible, even with his massive wages.

Chelsea are one of the few teams strongly linked with the player as Todd Boehly looks to add a new forward to Thomas Tuchel's squad this summer. The American co-owner has already met with Ronaldo's agent, Jorge Mendes, this summer, a meeting in which he was offered Ronaldo's services. Although it is understood that Boehly would be open to bringing Ronaldo to London, Tuchel has moved against the deal, preferring flexible forwards like Anthony Gordon.

With just two weeks of the window left, Ronaldo's future is set to linger on, but the striker has made his own public admission, lashing out on social media, saying, "they know the truth when they interview in a couple of weeks. The media is telling lies. I have a notebook, and in the last few months of the 100 news I made, only 5 were right. Imagine how it is. Stick with that tip."

Chelsea fans have had enough of revealing shock interviews with big-money signings to last them a lifetime, but Ronaldo's latest words certainly aren't going to cool the whirlpool around him. Perhaps fortunately for the forward, he is not currently the biggest story at Old Trafford, with ownership rumours spreading following a poor start to the season.

On the other hand, Chelsea have started positively, taking four points from their opening two matches, and the question remains as to whether they need a player like Ronaldo, anyway. The club are much closer with a deal to bring in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, owing largely to Tuchel's personal relationship with the player, and the German is a big advocate for Gordon too.

Something could yet be bubbling under the surface with Ronaldo, but like reality TV, you'll have to wait until the next episode to find out what.
