Cristiano Ronaldo drops major Arsenal transfer hint amid Manchester Utd Premier League verdict

Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has insisted that he would be 'happy' if Arsenal won the Premier League title this season, should Manchester United fail to do so.

The striker has sparked controversy with his interview with TV broadcaster Piers Morgan, with revelations of his opinions on Erik ten Hag, Ralf Rangnick, Manchester City and feeling betrayed by Manchester United directors.

As expected, many questions have been left unanswered regarding the future of the five-time Ballon D'or winner. In the summer, it was widely reported that Ronaldo wanted to exit the Old Trafford outfit to play Champions League football, but he remained part of Ten Hag's squad.

Surprisingly, Arsenal were one of the teams the forward heaped praise on during the interview, prompting Gunners fan Morgan to call for his side to sign Ronaldo in the January transfer window. The call has been rubbished rather quickly, with comparisons to Arteta 's ruthlessness with big characters as seen with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang last year.

However, in the second part of the interview on TalkTV, Ronaldo discusses the Gunners further as their chances of lifting their first Premier League title since 2004 was discussed.

Asked if he would like to see Arsenal lift the title, he confessed: “I hope so” before quickly adding: “Manchester first, and if not, Arsenal is some team that I like to see play.”

On Arsenal, he added: “I like the team. I like the coach. I think they have a good team. And if Manchester United don’t win the Premier League, I will be happy if Arsenal do.”

It remains unclear whether the temptation to bring one of the greats to north London exists among the club's hierarchy, but the deal would certainly not reflect Arsenal's previous business in the market.

Technical director Edu told football.london in the summer that signings are likely to be with an eye on the future in order to increase the club's financial sustainability.
