Cristiano Ronaldo could still leave Manchester United this month and other transfer rumours

Cristiano Ronaldo may have one transfer option remaining after asking to leave Manchester United this summer.

The Portuguese superstar asked to leave Old Trafford in the summer following the club's failure to qualify for this season's Champions League. Ronaldo also missed the club's pre-season tour of Asia due to "family reasons", an excuse that the club accepted, but has had to make do with a place on the bench following the beginning of the Premier League season with Erik ten Hag insisting: "Cristiano didn't have pre-season and you cannot miss that."

While the transfer window shut for much of Europe last week, it does remain open in Turkey until Thursday, September 8. And according to Spanish newspaper AS [via Fichajes], Ronaldo could yet secure his move away from United by joining Turkish outfit Fenerbahçe.

The club's Portuguese head coach Jorge Jesus is thought to be very keen to sign his fellow countryman Ronaldo to fire his side to success. It is claimed that should Ronaldo decide he is unhappy with accepting a place on Erik ten Hag's bench going forward, he could still choose to "accept this new challenge in Turkish football".

Ronaldo was linked with a move to the likes of Chelsea, Napoli, Bayern Munich and Sporting Lisbon during the summer transfer window, but a move ultimately never materialised.

Elsewhere, former Manchester United forward Memphis Depay - linked with a return to United in the summer window - wants to move back to Lyon, it is claimed.

The attacker has just one year left on his contract at Barcelona and came close to joining Juventus this summer. But Todo Fichajes reports that instead of pursuing a move to Italy when his contract expires next summer, the Dutchman now has his sights set on moving back to Lyon.

It is claimed that conversations with Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas are "constant" and the French side are already preparing for Depay's arrival. Depay joined Lyon from United for £22m in 2017, just two years after Louis van Gaal brought him to Old Trafford for £25m from Dutch side PSV.

But Erik ten Hag reportedly explored the idea of bringing him back to United this summer as he looked to add to his attacking options.
