Cristiano Ronaldo can break Premier League record held by Chelsea legend in Man Utd vs Leicester

Cristiano Ronaldo is on the brink of breaking yet another record in his illustrious career.

As his Manchester United side have already crashed out of every major competition this season, the Portuguese forward hasn't enjoyed the easiest of returns to Old Trafford. Nevertheless, he's still in the running to bag another career milestone if he can find three more Premier League goals before the end of the season.

Ronaldo is currently on 12 goals, two behind the most scored by any player after their 36th birthday in a single Premier League campaign. The holder of that impressive record is none other than Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola, who in the 2002/03 season, scored 14 times.

Despite it being his last season in west London, it was the Italian's best return for the Blues, as Chelsea went onto finish fourth in the table behind United, Arsenal and Newcastle respectively.

Unfortunately, however, records are there to be broken, and Ronaldo has another in his sights. Although somewhat unlikely, should he manage to score a hat-trick in the Red Devils' vital clash with Leicester at the weekend - like he did against Tottenham last month - the Portugal legend would officially record the most prolific campaign by any player in top-flight history after their 36th birthday.

With nine games still to play this season, you'd expect Ronaldo to eventually surpass Zola - barring injury of course. Nonetheless, he'll be concerned about the team's performance, and with it all to play for in the race for Champions League football, he'll be focused on helping his team to win by any means necessary.
