Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez have announced the death of their baby boy.
The footballer's partner was due to give birth to twins this year, with the pair announcing they have delivered a healthy baby girl.
In a heartfelt statement this evening, Ronaldo said on Instagram: "It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away.
"It is the greatest pain that any parents can feel. Only the birth of our baby girl fives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness.
"We would like to thank the doctors and nurses for all their care and support. We are devastated at this loss and we kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time.
"Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you. Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez."
Cristiano and Georgina's relationship
Ronaldo and Georgina, a former shop assistant, have been together since 2016 and have yet to tie the knot.
Speaking to Piers Morgan on ITV in 2019 Ronaldo said: "She helped me so much. Of course, I’m in love with her."
Pressed on if he would pop the question, Ronaldo replied: "For sure".
"It’s my mum’s dream as well. So, one day. Why not? It’s great. She’s my friend. We have conversations. I open the heart for her and she opens the heart for me."
Ronaldo had four children prior to the birth of his daughter, two of which were also twins.
The four older children are believed to have been born to three different mothers, with only his current partner Georgina identified.
