Cristian Romero admits Tottenham “lack solidity as a team” following Tuesday night’s loss to AC Milan.
Antonio Conte’s followed up a 4-1 loss away at Leicester on Saturday with a 1-0 defeat inside San Siro, with Brahim Diaz’s early goal proving the difference.
Milan could well have been out of sight but for better finishing on another difficult evening for Spurs, although the Italian side’s profligacy means the tie remains very much alive ahead of the return leg in north London next month.
Still, Spurs will need a resolute defensive performance to have any hope of making the quarter-finals, the kind of which have proven few and far between this season.
While home advantage could play in their favour next month, their struggles to keep a clean sheet continue to give Conte’s side a mountain to climb.
Speaking after the defeat in Milan, Romero told TNT Sports: “We’re in a tough moment with highs and lows, and we lack solidity as a team. Hope is the last thing that goes.
“We have a good team and can turn things around at home.”
