We finally have an answer to the question so many NFL fans have had at the beginning of the season.
With Cris Collinsworth getting a new Sunday Night Football broadcasting partner in Mike Tirico, it looks like the famed “Collinsworth Slide” is no more. Fans were distraught that it was gone and they missed it when Al Michaels appeared on Thursday Night Football the first time this year.
So: What happened to it? Was it officially retired?
Collinsworth himself answered while speaking with Kay Adams on Up & Adams: He looked back on the origins of the slide and then revealed that Tirico doesn’t do the opening monologue.

“So I’m sitting there, I could lean out, and then … but it would be stupid,” he said. “So what do you do? Do you do it just for effect? I don’t know what I’m going to do.
But perhaps there’s some hope here: “Maybe I’ll leave that way. As soon as I’m finished, maybe I’ll go that way.”
Hmm.
This is what it looks like now:
