Morning, everyone. The latest part of our Hot Property investigation has revealed that convicted criminals and unlicensed agents are operating in the real estate sector across multiple states.

We also examine how “dynamic pricing” is bringing sky-high concert tickets to these shores, the sale of a Queensland island that inspired scenes from a Narnia film, and Trump’s alleged would-be assassin has been in court.

Australia

  • Fantasy island | The Queensland island by that inspired scenes in a Chronicles of Narnia film has been sold for $5.6m. Little Green Island was owned by the film producer Douglas Gresham, who is the stepson of the Narnia author, CS Lewis.

  • Revealed | Authorities in four states have together fielded hundreds of complaints about real estate agents operating unlicensed. Plus, property ads suggest dozens are selling or leasing property without being listed on Victoria’s public register, a Guardian Australia investigation has found.

  • DV shame | Nearly 10% of men in NSW have had police take some form of legal action against them for domestic and family violence, according to the first Australian population study of the prevalence of offending.

  • Bird breakthrough | Scientists have identified a new way for an aggressive strain of bird flu to enter Australia, via the habit of some migratory birds of harassing other birds and stealing their food and potentially their viruses.

  • Basket case | Tickets to Green Day’s Saviors tour in Australia were as high as $500 in the initial presale after Ticketmaster revealed dynamic pricing was in effect for the rock band’s upcoming shows.

World

  • Europe floods | The death toll from torrential rain and flooding in central and eastern Europe has risen to at least 16 as authorities reported deaths in the Czech Republic, Poland and Austria and warned that the worst may yet be to come.

  • Trump suspect | Ryan Routh, the suspect in the second apparent assassination attempt of Donald Trump in as many months, has been charged with two gun-related crimes in the US federal court. Urgent investigations have begun into how he was able to get so close to the former US president.

  • Gaza deaths | At least 16 people have been killed in Israeli airstrikes across central Gaza on Sunday night and Monday morning, including five women and four children, Palestinian health officials have said.

  • Fall from grace | The former BBC presenter Huw Edwards has been given a six-month suspended prison sentence, completing an extraordinary fall from grace after admitting accessing indecent photographs of children as young as seven.

  • Shipyard sunk | Harland & Wolff, the owner of the Belfast shipyard that built the Titanic, will enter into administration this week after failing to find new funding, in a blow to UK government hopes of continuing shipbuilding in the city.

A beacon of hope: SA’s renewable revolution

Reged Ahmad speaks to environment reporter Petra Stock about how South Australia created a renewable energy world record – and how it plans to power the entire state with weather-dependent electricity in just a few years.

In-depth

Conservatives have been keen to criticise renewable energy schemes which they say will remove farmland from food production. But the same logic never seems to apply to decisions about preserving the land from mining developments – as the stoush over a goldmine in central NSW has shown, Calla Wahlquist writes.

Not the news

After Jane’s Addiction cast their future into doubt after a mid-song spat last weekend, our critic Dave Simpson looks back rock’s greatest bust-ups. From the Beatles’ tumultuous early days in Hamburg to how the Eagles swore they’d never play with each other again, we’ve got it all.

The world of sport

  • AFL | Geelong’s older recruits have proved their worth as the Cats advance on another preliminary final this weekend.

  • Formula One | McLaren team bosses say they are backing Oscar Piastri as well as No 1 Lando Morris after the Australian outshone the Briton in Sunday’s Azerbaijan GP.

  • Olympics | Sebastian Coe has launched his bid to be the next president of the International Olympic Committee by stressing his experience and expertise, telling voters: “Olympic sport is fundamental to my DNA.”

Media roundup

A secret recording between Victorian Liberal party leaders and the ousted MP Moira Deeming will be played in court as her defamation case continues, the Age reports. The Canberra Times looks at how the Comancheros bikie gang turned the ACT national ride into a recruitment drive, while Steven Miles tells the Courier-Mail that he thinks Labor can still win the election.

What’s happening today

  • Sydney | Anthony Albanese is to address the Business Council of Australia annual dinner.

  • Gold Coast | There will be a committal hearing at Southport magistrates court for Peter Foster over an alleged $2m bitcoin scam.
