The criminal who died after he crashed a stolen car with a vulnerable child in the back seat brought secrets of a stabbing death with him to his grave.
The Mirror has learned that Dale Fogarty consistently refused to tell the family what he saw when Kieran Monahan died after he was stabbed at a house party in Kilkenny 10 years ago.
Fogarty (36) was also injured in the incident that cost Mr Monahan his life — but he never revealed what he saw.

“He never told Kieran’s family what he knew,” a source said last night — as medics continued to treat the young girl who suffered serious injuries when Fogarty stole her father’s car with her in it and then slammed into another vehicle head-on.
The horror incident happened in Kilkenny city on Friday and left criminal Fogarty dead — and the child and three occupants of the second car in serious conditions.
And, as gardai continue to investigate the smash, sources have confirmed to us that Fogarty had key information about the death of Mr Monahan in an incident in Kilkenny in February 2012.
Mr Monahan (21) from Durrow, Co Laois, died from a stab wound at a party in an apartment in Kilkenny city in the early hours of February 15 of that year.
The DPP decided not to prosecute a man arrested at the time, citing the Criminal Law (Defence and the Dwelling) Act 2011, which allows a person to use reasonable force to defend themselves in their home.
The family were left devastated by that decision.
Fogarty was well-known to gardai and also received a stab wound in the incident that led to Mr Monahan’s death — but never revealed what he knew about the killing.
Meanwhile the 16-year-old girl who was in the car that Fogarty stole in Kilkenny was still in a serious condition in a Dublin hospital last night.
Sources have indicated that the young girl, who has underlying health problems, was sitting in the back seat of her father’s car which he left on the street as he popped into his office in the town’s Green Street.
The young girl was waiting for him to return from his office when Fogarty got into the driver’s seat and stole the car shortly after 3pm.
Fogarty, who had been living in sheltered accommodation in Kilkenny city, collided with another car on the N77 between Kilkenny and Ballyragget just before 4pm.
Emergency services were on the scene within minutes of the accident.
A woman in her 40s and two men in their 60s who were in the second car were taken to St Luke’s General Hospital where they are being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
It is believed the three occupants were on their way to a wedding in the city at the time of the fatal collision.
The teenage girl is understood to have been adopted from Belarus and was airlifted to University Hospital Waterford with serious injuries.
She has undergone a series of operations so far and has been transferred to a Dublin-based hospital.
Mr Fogarty was known to gardai due to previous convictions and is understood to have had addiction issues. His body was taken to St Luke’s General Hospital for a post-mortem.
