Crime Scene Technician Testifies Finding Live Rounds On 'Rust' Set

Hannah Gutierrez-Reed attends trial after Rust shooting in Santa Fe

Kari Morrissey, the lead special prosecutor, has been questioning a crime scene technician regarding the types of ammunition retrieved from the “Rust” set. Marissa Poppell, an employee of the Santa Fe Sherriff’s Department, disclosed that she seized dummy rounds and blank ammunition during the execution of search warrants linked to the ongoing investigation. Poppell elaborated to the jury on how to differentiate between the two types of ammunition.

Presenting photographs captured by Poppell at the scene, Morrissey prompted her to pinpoint the pieces of ammunition suspected to be live rounds. Poppell detailed how she forwarded these items to the FBI for further analysis. She confirmed discovering a total of six live rounds on the set, one of which was a spent shell casing.
