Crime scene tape in place as huge blaze rips through warehouse late at night

Firefighters tackled a huge blaze at a warehouse in Tameside overnight.

Multiple crews from across the region were scrambled to the scene at the unit on Commercial Brow in Hyde just before 11.30pm last night (Monday). They were there for more than six hours as the blaze ripped through the building.

A platform was used to hose down the fire, which is now fully out. This morning, pictures taken at the scene showed the unit - which the Manchester Evening News understands is a flooring warehouse - left blackened and burnt out.

Crime scene tape was in place around the area with police officers stationed at the scene. The road was shut off for several hours through the night, but it has since been reopened.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "Just before 11:30pm last night (25 April), firefighters were called to reports of a fire at a commercial premise on Commercial Brow in Hyde. Fire engines from Hyde, Stalybridge, Ashton, Gorton, Offerton, Salford and Chadderton stations attended the incident, alongside a Hydraulic Platform from Oldham.

"Crews used breathing apparatus, a hose reel, jets and other equipment to extinguish the fire and were in attendance for approximately six and a half hours."

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said the force is supporting the fire service with their initial investigation.
