A controlled breach on a private dam in Adelaide Hills has eased fears it could collapse following heavy rain, flooding local properties.
The State Emergency Service has been monitoring the dam at Hope Forest for several days.
A watch and act flood warning remained in place on Tuesday for nearby residents.
The SES said crews had used an excavator to dig a spillway allowing water levels to drop.
There had also been concerns for another private dam at Basket Range but water levels there had dropped by Monday night.
Rain late last week and over the weekend had caused widespread minor flooding in Adelaide and through the hills but weather conditions had improved during the past two days.
Flood concerns remain for parts of SA's northwest and northeast with wet conditions closing several roads.
The Bureau of Meteorology had a flood watch warning across a number of catchments, including the Flinders Ranges, the Simpson Desert, Lake Eyre, the Warburton and Finke rivers, the Stephenson Creek and the Eastern Great Victoria Desert.
"Heavy rainfall across the flood watch area may cause areas of ponding and overland flow, along with rises in local creeks and overbank flooding," the bureau said.
"Roads, travel and transport may be impacted and communities may be cut off."
Some areas were forecast to have falls of up to 70 millimetres.
