Creme Egg warning as mum discovers how much sugar is in Easter treat

Easter is upon us, with lots of sweet treats on the menu for the next couple of days. But one mum is issuing a warning to parents after finding out exactly how much sugar is contained in one Cadbury's Creme Egg.

The popular chocolate snack is consumed by many of us across the country at this time of year, but the parent was left concerned about giving her kids the sweet after measuring its sugar content, with people left gobsmacked by the discovery.

The mum admitted her findings may "upset" Creme Egg fans, sharing a picture of her measurement alongside the tasty treat online. She also included a 2p coin in the snap for scale, reports the Mirror.

Some people were not convinced the measurements were correct, with one writing: "Couldn't fit that much sugar in the egg. This is a lie."

Each Creme Egg contains 177kcal, 6.1g of fat, 3.7g saturates, 0.06g salt and a staggering 26.5g of sugar, according to the Cadbury website.

In a bid to get to the bottom of things, the Mirror carried out their own test. And it turns out the amount of sugar inside an individual egg shockingly larger in size than the egg itself.

According to NHS guidelines, an adult should not consume more than 30g of sugar per day, with the guideline figure for children ages seven to 10 years old 24g and just 19g for four to six year olds.

This means that just once Creme Egg contains more sugar that the recommended daily intake for kids under the age of 11, with adults left just 4g in their daily allowance if eating a single egg.
