Creetown church building set to be knocked down

A church building in Creetown is set to be knocked down.

The Greenview Evangelical Church, which is on Wallace Street, was closed two years ago.

And the declining condition of the building, combined with failed attempts to sell it, saw the owners apply to have it demolished.

That move has now been given the green light by the council.

A supporting statement lodged with planners revealed the roof had started to dip and there are no funds to repair it or continue to pay utility bills.

It added: “Since we cannot afford to keep the building maintained, it will unfortunately fall further into disrepair and since it is in close proximity to other houses this gives cause for concern if we are denied the right to have it demolished.

“Furthermore, if we continue to have high winds as we have experienced in the last few years this could increase the possibility of the roof/building being damaged and in turn damaging other properties that are in close proximity.”

There were no objections to the demolition proposal, which was approved by the council.
