Creetown arts centre announces new programming team

A Creetown arts centre has announced a new programming team revealing an exciting regional partnership.

The Quarrymen’s Arts Centre, which sits proudly in the heart of the local community has chosen the Dumfries and Galloway based theatre company, Bunbury Banter, for the role.

The centre has hosted a regular, eclectic live music programme and a number of theatre productions, including, most recently, a production in association with this year’s Dumfries and Galloway Arts Festival.

The new partnership heralds the start of an exciting chapter for both organisations and a new direction for the local theatre company.

The trustees of the Quarrymen’s Arts Centre said: “The board of trustees have always realised the potential of our historical building to return to its position in the heart of the community.

“The refurbishment of St Joseph’s Church into the Quarrymen’s Arts Centre was only the beginning, however, and the board are delighted to begin this new partnership with Bunbury Banter who as guest programmers will help us to fulfil a vision for QAC as a contemporary and intimate performing space to be enjoyed by all. We are excited and look forward to the year ahead with Phil and Ali.”

The centre is the home of Creetown Silver Band, a local brass band with a proud history dating back to 1880.

A magnificent, granite-built former church, the venue is owned by Creetown Building Preservation Trust and recently underwent a full refurbishment to transform the building to a vibrant, contemporary performing arts centre with tasteful echoes of its rich quarrying and musical heritage.

Philip and Ali Anderson-Dyer from Bunbury Banter said: “Bunbury Banter is delighted to be the guest programmers for the upcoming year at this historical, intimate and extremely special venue in Creetown.

“We’ve been looking to find the right venue to work with for a while now and we’re thrilled to have found the Quarrymen’s.

“It is such an exciting opportunity for us and we look forward to working with the trustees, the band and the local community to create an exciting programme for the year ahead. We can’t wait to get stuck in.”
