Police Scotland highlight that many thieves do not need to break in at all because a door or window has been left open or unlocked. With this, they urged residents to keep their homes locked at all times. They also add that keys shouldn't be left on the inside of door locks, under mats or anywhere else they can be easily found.
You should ensure that a thumb turn’ lock on the inside of a door, ensure that it cannot be accessed from outside and as for keyrings, name or room numbers should not be added to them in case they are lost or stolen.
The police also urge people to make sure their windows are locked and warn that single glazed windows are more at risk as they are more easily to break. Residents should consider adding laminate glass to their windows if they have single glazing.
