A pair of Edinburgh-based creative Gen Z retailers, who normally sell their sustainable fashion and jewellery online, are part of collective taking over a store in Edinburgh’s iconic St James Quarter offering fans an experiential in-person shopping experience on 29 and 30 June.
Anna Stoane, 23, is the founder of Well Pressed , a hand-made jewellery brand inspired by nature, featuring dried and pressed flowers and Tamara Hawkes, 24, is a seller on retail app Depop specialising in vintage, pre-loved sustainable clothing from the 1990s and 2000s.
They are set to collaborate and take over the hyper digital ‘pop up’ retail chain Sook’s outlet in St James Quarter, offering a mix of experiences including bookable beaded jewellery masterclasses and Tarot card readings, while the two-day event will offer customers refreshment via drinks brand White Claw Hard Seltzer.
Anna, who sells online via DMs on Instagram, said: “After the pandemic, people are looking for unique experiences to lure them into physical spaces like those offered by Sook. They are also much more interested in sustainability. We’re excited to take over this fantastic space.”
Tamara said: “Generation Z have grown up buying online. For them, shopping on the high street on their own terms is a novelty. They enjoy seeking out vintage pieces that don’t impact the environment and they’re also looking for an experience.”
The event is organised by the Studio 88 collective run by Nicole Stark, the 19-year-old founder of 90s vintage clothes reseller Glownic.
