A crash added to congestion on the M6 motorway which left people queuing for "nine hours".
The M6 has been partially shut all weekend due to roadworks but police confirmed this morning there was a crash at the sport where people were experiencing "severe delays". The RTC happened between junction 33 and junction 32 southbound in Lancashire, with the motorway already being affected while essential work was udnerway.
Posting on Twitter, National Highways confirmed here were three miles of congestion by midday yesterday, and Lancashire Police confirmed details of the collision this morning adding to the traffic chaos unfolding on the busy carriageway.

The North West police force said: "The M6 motorway is still closed between J33 and J32 Southbound due to a road traffic collision. This is due to be closed for some time. We would advise finding alternative routes when travelling, we will update you all once the road has been reopened. Thank you."
Yesterday people flooded social media as they complained about the horrendous traffic at the junction due to the roadworks, with one person tweeting: "M6 southbound junction 33, I am now on rations and sips of water. Could be here all night at this rate. Waiting time two hours 15 mins and car not moved."
Sue Nugent said: "Is this a sick joke as we’ve been in it EIGHT hours at the same junction we entered on 8 hours ago! No food or water & running out of petrol as we have to keep stop-start to move an inch forward every half hour. God help the elderly or people with young children and dogs."
@SolWpolski wrote in response to Lancashire Police's update this morning: "This is highly misleading as it ignores the closure of the M6 which has been very poorly communicated & planned by @HighwaysNWEST.@A_J_Snowden good work from @LancsRoadPolice yesterday on the roadways, but same root cause exists: poor comms."
