A crane has been dispatched to Baltimore to assist in the cleanup efforts following the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge earlier this week. The largest crane on the Eastern Seaboard was scheduled to arrive on Thursday evening, according to Maryland Sen. Chris Van Hollen. However, as of early Friday, the crane had not yet reached the site. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg mentioned that three heavy lift vessels are expected to start arriving on Friday to aid in the operation.
Maryland officials are diligently working to reopen the crucial shipping channel and resume traffic flow through the port. The port in Baltimore is the largest in the United States for handling autos and light trucks, having managed a record 850,000 vehicles last year. Governor Wes Moore emphasized on Thursday that while progress is being made, there is still a significant amount of work ahead to fully restore operations.
