Craigneuk Post Office re-opens at its new location in the village

Craigneuk Post Office has officially re-opened in its new location.

Post Office has launched the branch at the Costcutter store on Glencairn Avenue.

The move to the new premises will offer 68 hours of Post Office service a week. This equates to an additional 26 hours including all-day Sunday and Wednesday and Saturday afternoons.

This branch also remains open later every day for the convenience of customers.

Steven Simpson, Post Office Network provision lead, said: “We are delighted to have been able to relocate services to Craigneuk as we know how important a Post Office is to a community.

“This full-time Post Office will be convenient for customers to visit.”

The new opening hours are Monday to Saturday from 9am to 7pm and Sunday from 9am to 5pm.

The previous Post Office in Craigneuk Street closed its doors last month, having been a fixture in the community for decades.

Previous Craigneuk Post Master Scott Morrison admitted he had "mixed emotions" about the closure, especially as his mother Christine has been Post Mistress in Craigneuk from 1982 up until her death in 2010.

Scott said: “We’ve had a family connection here for many years with my mum and then myself.

“There are a lot of ties there, so there’s definitely mixed emotions.

“We knew there was a possibility of the Post Office being moved into a retail shop; I knew it was going to come.”

For some time now, the Post Office has been relocating “stand alone” offices into retail outlets as part of the modernisation of the network.

Stand-alone post offices are struggling to survive in this current climate without retail due to the UK Government removing many services that were once provided, the last being the Post Office Card Account.
