Craig Moore has stopped short of offering to step in as Rangers new sporting director - but said it is a job he did for three years Down Under.
The former Rangers defender, who spent three years as director of football at A-League side Brisbane Roar, pointed to the success of other Australians including Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou as he hinted at a move to behind the scenes. Ibrox boss Michael Beale is without a sporting director after Ross Wilson departed to join Premier League side Nottingham Forest last month. Moore, who played for Rangers during two spells, also outlined his strategy if he was to get the job at Gers with a huge revamp needed over the summer window.
Beale announced after the Scottish Cup semi-final defeat to Celtic last month that a rebuild would be needed in Govan at the end of the season due to a number of players being out of contract. Alfredo Morelos, Allan McGregor, Ryan Kent, Ryan Jack and Scott Arfield are just some of the players set to leave Rangers later this month.
Speaking on Go Radio, Moore believes Aussies should be given more high profile jobs in football. When asked tongue in cheek if Rangers had been in touch with him, he said: "You laugh a bit, but that was a job I did for three years but people go 'it was only Australia' but we look at what Ange has done. Jon Brady, an Australian coach, has just got promotion at Northampton.
"For me it's important Australians do well because in regards to football there is still that attitude at times is 'what does he know?', we know a bit."
Moore also outlined what he would do if he was in charge of the transfer business at his former club. He added: "I actually think they need to sell a player or two. Who would I sell? See if an unbelievable offer comes through on any player you have to consider it. You would have to seriously consider it because there is a rebuild and it costs money."
