Craig Moore outlines Rangers 'curtains' scenario for Gio van Bronckhorst with Celtic pulling away

Craig Moore reckons it’s “curtains” for Giovanni van Bronckhorst if he drops any points in their next two games.

After losing to St Johnstone on Sunday, Rangers welcome Hearts to Govan on Wednesday night before heading to St Mirren before the Scottish Premiership takes a backseat due to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar this month. Pressure is mounting on the Dutchman but Ibrox directors are set to stick by him for the time being.

Celtic are seven points ahead at the top of the table after their last gasp win over Dundee United at Parkhead on Saturday. The Hoops are away to Motherwell before hosting Ross County three days later, and will be expected to pick up maximum points from both. Rangers must do the same if they are to retain their outside hopes of reeling in their rivals, even at this stage of the season.

Even if he does make it to the otherside of the World Cup break, Moore has pinpointed one fixture that could be make or break for van Bronckhorst. But he insists six points from six this week is a must before looking too far ahead.

“If it stretches then it’s curtains,” he told Go Radio. “No-one wants to see anyone lose their job. Giovanni was a fantastic player at the football club

“He’s still got time because the board seem to have given him that support that he needs at this moment in time. But going into this break without losing any more points is a must.

“I can’t emphasise how important the next Old Firm game is. That will be a big factor in whether he’s there longer term or not.”
