Craig Gordon shoots Andy Robertson snipers down as he insists 120 game marathon earned skipper his beer

Craig Gordon insists Andy Robertson enjoying a beer on Liverpool’s open top bus parade won’t leave Scotland’s World Cup hopes wrecked.

The Scots skipper came in for flak from some sections of the Tartan Army as the parade came just three days before Wednesday's crunch clash with Ukraine.

But Gordon said: “Andy will be here, ready to play.

“He’s played so many games in the past couple of seasons, I think he’s one short of 120 games or something crazy like that.

“So, I think we can give him one beer and I’m sure he will be absolutely ready and flying up and down that left-hand side as he has been for the last couple of years.”

Gordon expects the 28-year-old Anfield ace will draw on his pain of losing the Champions League Final to Real Madrid to drive the side forward.

And while he may have joined the squad on a downer, Scott McKenna was on a high after helping Nottingham Forest secure promotion to the Premier League on Sunday.

Gordon believes that is good news for Scotland, adding: “Most of the squad have played in these big atmospheres and big events.

“We’ve had a mix with Scotty winning the play-off final but Andy losing the Champions League Final, but both will be ready to compete.”
